Amy Koltnow is a Partner and Business Unit Leader at Kelley Kronenberg and has over 30 years of legal experience. With a focus on all aspects of business law and litigation, Amy represents a diverse clientele, ranging from individuals to large corporations, in federal and state courts, arbitration, and administrative forums.
Amy has proven herself as a trial attorney, handling complex and high-stakes bench and jury trials. Her wide-ranging expertise in different areas of litigation consistently delivers positive results for her clients, both at trial and on appeal. Additionally, Amy’s legal career includes serving as outside General Counsel for a Florida property & casualty insurance company, where she oversaw statewide litigation, established claims handling protocols, and provided strategic counsel to company executives. Her leadership in this role extended to guiding panel defense counsel and implementing solution-driven approaches.
Amy holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism & Communications from the University of Florida and earned her Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law. Her diverse background, coupled with her wealth of experience, uniquely positions her to provide strategic and effective legal counsel to her clients at Kelley Kronenberg.

- Served as General Counsel to a Florida property and casualty insurance company from startup; developed general strategy and guidelines for claims handling and litigation protocol; selected and managed outside panel defense counsel; oversaw litigated claims throughout the state and provided strategic direction to resolve disputes; established e-Billing program, e-Billing guidelines, and audited legal fees of outside counsel; provided legal advice to executive leadership on litigation and claim trends, coverage issues, policy forms, regulatory issues, and general employment matters.
- Obtained significant appellate victory in an insurance coverage dispute where property damage arose from multiple concurrent causes and the policy contained anti-concurrent causation language. The case created legal precedent for the interpretation and enforcement of anti-concurrent exclusionary provisions in Florida.
- Obtained trial and appellate victory in an insurance coverage dispute where the insureds reported a claim after repairing the damage. The case set new precedent in Florida for late-reported claims when an insurer is prejudiced in its ability to investigate the extent of the damage.
- Lead appellate counsel for a group of insurance associations who filed an amicus brief in high-profile Florida Supreme Court case contemplating the constitutionality of Florida law governing claimant’s attorney’s fees in workers’ compensation claims.
- Served as first-chair trial counsel in 2-week federal district court jury trial in business disputes between PEO and its workers compensation carrier over claims handling issues. Obtained favorable jury verdict against carrier for $250,000.
- Served as first-chair trial counsel in 1-week jury trial in business dispute between distribution company and wholesale fuel supplier over fraudulent billing practices. Obtained favorable jury verdict against supplier for over $550,000, plus award of attorney’s fees. Also served as appellate counsel wherein Final Judgment was upheld on appeal.
- Served as second-chair trial counsel in 6-week jury trial in business dissolution and breach of oral life-time employment agreement involving a notable, family-run law firm that was instrumental in pioneering the use of television advertising to promote personal injury law practice. Obtained favorable million-dollar verdict in favor of ousted brother.
- Successfully defeated a state-wide class action brought by a proposed class of medical providers who received an assignment of personal injury protection (“PIP”) benefits from insureds under an automobile policy.
- Certified by the Florida Division of Insurance Agent and Agency Services as a Continuing Education Instructor in Adjuster Law and Policy and active speaker and lecturer in the areas of “bad faith” insurance practices, claims handling best practices, fraudulent insurance claims, and attorney fee claims.
- Provide consultation and expert testimony regarding the appropriateness of fee awards in insurance disputes.
