Stephen “Steve” Bain is a Partner and Business Unit Leader at Kelley Kronenberg, focusing his practice on general liability and third-party insurance defense litigation, including coverage matters, with specific expertise in fraud investigation and defense. Working closely with clients’ SIU units, Steve has managed investigations into insurance fraud ring activity, staged car accidents, swoop and squats, jump ins, and suspected arson. He brings over 35 years of litigation and management experience. Steve holds an AV Peer Review Rating of “Preeminent” and is a Certified Forensic Interviewer.
Prior to joining Kelley Kronenberg, Steve spent over 25 years building and leading a Houston-based law practice focused on insurance litigation and coverage defense. He has served as Special Counsel to the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s Medical Fraud Task Force in Houston and as Counsel to the Texas Association of SIU (South Chapter), roles that underscore his recognized expertise in fraud investigation and insurance industry matters.
Throughout his career, Steve has tried cases to verdict in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts and presented cases in arbitration across a broad range of insurance defense matters including catastrophic injury, trucking, deceptive trade practices, hurricane claims, bad faith, products liability, premises liability, and commercial disputes. He has provided nationwide litigation management support to a leading global manufacturer and actively handles cases throughout the State of Texas.
Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts from State University of New York at Binghamton. Thereafter, he received his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston. He then furthered his education with an Executive MBA from Harvard Business School.
